Pinewood Derby 2025
Without a doubt the biggest, most boisterous event of the year! If you're considering or curious about Scouting, this is an event you do not want to miss!
Weeks ahead of the event itself, our Pack begins their designs and plans for their Pinewood Derby cars! Each Cub builds their own car, with the supervision of a Parent or Adult leader. We might even recruit some older Scouts to lend their own experience and expertise.
This year, on Friday February 7th from 6:00pm – 9:00pm our Cubs and Parents drop their cars off at the First Congregational Church for an official weigh in, final adjustments and a good sprinkling of graphite lubrication to ensure a speedy race the next morning.
Cubs can enter in any number of races – we traditionally have three races – Fastest, Turtle (slowest) and Families.
That's right. If you're not a Cub but a family member of a Cub (Parents, even you!) you're welcome to build, enter and race your vehicle.
Our annual Pinewood Derby is an absolutely fantastic way to be introduce your child to their scouting adventure. Admittedly it's a wild time indeed – kids in hysterics as they anticipate their winning cars racing down the track, with the backdrop of our DJ playing some fun tunes.
To join us, all we ask is that you RSVP. To do so simply fill out the form below and one of our leaders will respond as soon as we can.
If you'd like to race as a non-scout, we would love to invite you to join in the fun. All we ask is for you to RSVP letting us know you're interested in attending and racing. We'll follow up with race critical information via email.
Official Weigh-in and drop off of your vehicle(s) takes place Friday February 7th from 5:00pm – 9:00pm. All vehicle work must be done by 9:00pm so we can go home and get our beauty rest.
You can usually pick up Pinewood Derby Kits at John Millen's Hardware in Wilmette. There you'll find additional weights, stickers, paint and more.
Of course, you can always order them online at Amazon here.
